future!verse: A Quick Visit

While sorting out meeting up with Liz's parents hadn't been too much of a hassle, trying to find a time to meet his family was proving to be more difficult than it really should be. They ended up having to take a shuttle over to Scotland - a fairly quick trip, though of course not so quick as the transporters would have been - where they'd be staying with Scotty's sister for a few days before heading back to California. Of course, traveling from one side of the world to the other meant they'd had to get time zones sorted out, and in order to arrive at Scotland at a reasonable time, they'd had to leave California at a very unreasonable time.

The trip was uneventful, and when they reached their destination, the worst they'd have to contend with was a bit of jet lag. For once - miracle of miracles - it wasn't raining, and while the air was definitely cooler than in California, it wasn't half so bad as Scotty had feared it would be. And although it didn't exactly feel like home, not anymore, he realized he'd missed it more than he thought. "Well, love, this is it." Now to go find his father, who was supposed to be picking them up.

"I'm pretty sure you only watch them enough to make sure they don't hurt themselves. Other than that, they're on their own," she added with a laugh. Liz wasn't sure how they kept up either. She knew that it was a lot of work to have kids and sure, it was probably hard on some days, but she was convinced that having kids was what she wanted. Will was great, but she wanted her own.

Monty told him to stay close and Liz felt a sense of pride. He was much more fatherly than either of them realized. She moved and laid down beside him, her head on his lap and still watch the boy run around.

Liz looked up at Monty when he started to talk, but he was redirected by Will falling over. She was then directing her attention that way, but Will was fine. She figured he would be. Kids were resilient and if you didn't pay any attention to their falls, they usually survived. Once he was up and fine, she looked back up at him.

"He's in range. I'm keeping a mental eye on him," she smirked. "What were you thinking?"

Liz was picking up the signals and she had a feeling she knew where this was going, but in an attempt to block herself a little from him so that he could go ahead and say what he was thinking, she just looked up at him, a soft smile on her lips. Will was occupying most of her mind at the moment, so she didn't have a huge focus on Monty, but she still sort of knew. "What exactly are we wanting to do?" she asked, trying to fish it out of him. She may be telepathic, but she wasn't about to make any assumptions.

Liz had always made him say the important things out loud. She may have known what he was talking about and she may have been able to even guess, but she also knew that if he grew accustom to her figuring it all out on her own, he'd never have to be sure of himself enough to say it out loud. And when he finally did say it? It was much better than having him just think it.

She just smiled up at him. Maybe ti was because she was a little surprised that he had decided he wanted kids or maybe it was that Clara was partially right about pending all this time with Will that would help convince him. Mostly she was just happy. She was going to have kids with the man she loved. It coudn't possibly be any better than that. "You want to have kids?" she asked, as if she actually needed to confirm it.

She smirked up at him and decided, they yes, now way about time to sit up and kiss him for being a wonderful, wonderful man. Sitting up to sit beside him, she leaned in and kissed him briefly only after taking a mental check on Will who was apparently captivated by some kind of bug he found. Liz leaned in to kiss Monty again and this time when she pulled back, she had tears in her eyes and was smiling. "You're sure?" she asked, just wanting to be absolutely positive that he was positive.

Liz would have responded, but Will was currently trying to hand her a worm. She looked a little uncomfortable about the idea and instead smiled. "I'm sure Uncle Monty wants to see the worm, Will," she chimed in. With a little laugh, Liz watched Will bounce and whine until Monty just had to take the worm from him.

"How about you stop bringing worms back?" she asked. WIll just glared at her as best a five year old can glare. He wasn't really all that bad of a kid. He was just a boy. Granted, a little energetic. Liz leaned a little against Monty. "We can finish this conversation later," she whispered to him, watching Will now roll in the grass. "How's Clara feel about dirt?"

[identity profile] elizabethdehner.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
"No, probably not," she replied. It was probably not uncommon for Will to come bouncing into the house with something that really ought to stay outside. She could only imagine what Kevin was going to be like when he got a bit older. It was hard to tell when they are little. Sometimes they are just like their siblings, sometimes they are the absolute opposite. It's always something of a surprise. She couldn't wait for that feeling.

Liz watched them play. Monty was over dramatic, but in a way that Will seemed to be okay with. He was the ever valiant captain, saving the day each and every time. All too soon death was on her dear husband, the representation of the Klingon Empire. She laughed from afar and by time they were returning, the two of them looked like they'd rolled around in the grass for days. She just smirked up at the two of them, eyebrows raised and started to sincerely laugh, "it looks like you lost."

Liz scooted away when the tickling started. She wasn't too keen on getting in the middle of the boys while they were play fighting. Instead she laughed as Will retreated. The suggestion to head back was met by a groan from William and Liz just smirked. "We'll play more later," she suggested, "let us go warm up a bit and get cleaned up." That didn't go over very well either, but with a bit of pouting while Liz got things packed away - while strategically hiding the frog out of site until she was sure he'd forgotten - Will was distracted moments later.

While Monty was carting the little one off, Liz let the frog go. It sat very still for a long while and she felt a little bad about that. There wasn't much she could do, though, so she just let him be where he was. She grabbed the blanket and caught up with them. It wasn't long until they were back at the house, Will still perched on his uncle's back. They walked into the house, wiping their feet off outside so as not to track dirt back in the house.

Liz helped put away things from their picnic, as well. Clara didn't seem surprised that Will looked a mess, but it was obvious that Will didn't understand how he could possibly need a bath. She was finished putting things away and folding the blanket again - though she imagined they'd want to fold it - when she got a very specific thought from Monty. She smirked and looked at him out of the corner of her eye. I think I can make that work she mentally replied. Liz held out her hand to him and lead him back to the guest room.

With the door closed, she felt more comfortable talking out loud. She locked it, just in case Will got done with his bath and decided a visit was needed. "You are a mess," she teased, getting a good look at Monty. Maybe now - or after he was clean - they could discuss children a bit more.

She just watched him walk into the bathroom, shaking her head and laughing. She wasn't quite sure what they were supposed to do about him. "I have no idea," she giggled, following him finally into the bathroom. He had a bit of mud on him as well and that just looked silly on a grown man. She pulled off her shirt, followed by her jeans. She had left her coat and shoes and socks by the bed. After a moment she was down to nothing and stepping into the shower. The hot water was perfect at the moment and she soaked just long enough before he stepped into it and she could let him stand under the spray.

"I suppose it is," she teased, "maybe you should reconsider who you ally yourself with. To be fair, Captain William looked a mess, as well." Liz laughed and leaned her back against the cold shower tiles, letting him take his time to get that dirt and grime off of him. She really hadn't expected him to take to Will as well as he did. She knew that kids were a bit of rough subject for him. He'd had it in his head for years that he thought he'd make a horrible father; she couldn't find an original to that thought, but it was there.
