future!verse: A Quick Visit

While sorting out meeting up with Liz's parents hadn't been too much of a hassle, trying to find a time to meet his family was proving to be more difficult than it really should be. They ended up having to take a shuttle over to Scotland - a fairly quick trip, though of course not so quick as the transporters would have been - where they'd be staying with Scotty's sister for a few days before heading back to California. Of course, traveling from one side of the world to the other meant they'd had to get time zones sorted out, and in order to arrive at Scotland at a reasonable time, they'd had to leave California at a very unreasonable time.

The trip was uneventful, and when they reached their destination, the worst they'd have to contend with was a bit of jet lag. For once - miracle of miracles - it wasn't raining, and while the air was definitely cooler than in California, it wasn't half so bad as Scotty had feared it would be. And although it didn't exactly feel like home, not anymore, he realized he'd missed it more than he thought. "Well, love, this is it." Now to go find his father, who was supposed to be picking them up.

And in an instant, she had tears in her eyes and she smiling, feeling like something she'd always wanted had just fallen into place. It was within reach. They could have children and she wouldn't feel like she was pressuring him, because he was the one who mentioned it. He meant it. He wanted to. And sure he wanted to make her happy, but she knew that at the end of the day, he wanted this too in some way. "Thank you," she said softly, "I love you." Liz wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged him tightly.

He was and always would be the most incredible man in her life. She knew that beyond any doubt just as much as she'd known when she first told him that she was telepathic. He was always putting her first and between the two of them, they had more love than any one person could handle. She had every intention of having kids and she would someday look back and they'd wonder why it even had to be discussed at all. She wanted to ask again if he was sure but she knew he was. Instead she just kissed him again before pulling back. "After the wedding?" she said, making a sort of time suggestion.

"We still haven't decided where to live," she said, looking kind of distant for a second. She had no idea what they were going to do about that. It wasn't going to be easy, of course. The decorating she figured would be fun, but that would come next anyway. If they could just figure out where exactly to live, that would be a plus. There wasn't any pressing matter at the moment, since they had some time, but they'd have to come up with something soon. There was still a wedding to plan, though she was starting to like the sound of a smaller wedding.

"How close to the Academy? It's cold in San Francisco," she almost whined that at him. She had gotten used to a normal schedule as well and she didn't really want to set herself up to be living and working at strange times. She'd done enough of that already in her life when she had to run night shifts. That always took a toll on their relationship. She didn't want to have to repeat that. Besides, she wasn't even sure what her next job was. She could start working as a psychiatrist, possibly with children, but she still had a lot of work left to do on her research.

"So, somewhere south of San Fran, then," she said as if that was the final answer. They still had to decide how far south, of course. She didn't know much of the area down there. "San Diego is said to have great weather year round," she offered up. It wasn't too far, well, not for a transport and it was nice weather and in the same time zone.

They were still standing in the shower as of the moment and she started to laugh before she could do anything else. "I'm getting out," she announced, slipping out of the shower and grabbing a towel to wrap herself up.

"It's pretty. I've visited a few times," she said while ringing out her hair. The doors were locked, so they weren't going to get interrupted just yet, but it wouldn't stop Will from trying. She looked over at him, still just wrapped in a towel and pulling her hair up to tie it back in a loose bun of damp and unruly curls. "When we get back, we could go look," she said, "maybe take a day trip. We might even find a pretty location for a wedding."
