Scotty hadn't yet had time that day to check the community; he'd been busy, which wasn't an unusual thing for him, and between one thing and another he'd not only managed to go nearly a whole day without checking up on the community, he'd also managed to go nearly a whole day without remembering to eat. The end of his shift found him tired, hungry, and once again covered in grease; the other day it had been helm relays and piston shafts, today it had been plasma conduits. Cleaning the things was a dull, tedious task, usually delegated to the rookies or anyone who'd been in a bit of trouble, but every now and then Scotty liked to make an example by doing those sorts of jobs himself.
After the plasma conduits it had been an on-going series of other small, menial tasks, but it was a welcome break from paperwork. Now, however, Scotty was off duty and on his way down to the mess hall to grab something to eat before heading back to his quarters. He'd almost made it to his destination when he happened to pass by someone who was both strangely familiar and not wearing a Starfleet uniform. He paused, and turned, and then it hit him. After the few video chats they'd had, he'd recognize that coat anywhere. "Captain?"

"Well, then," Jack said, forcing himself to say something after his few moments of silence. "I, ehm. I hope that you do get to talk to him. Eventually, that is. I mean. He'd be a great help. When... When he's done with all of this that he's dealing with now, that is..."

"How about we go an' see about gettin' you a place tae stay?" he suggested, though setting up guest quarters would only take a few minutes. Not much of a distraction, that. "An' after that's out o' the way, why don't we have a drink or two?"

"Sorry to be keeping you from what you could otherwise be doing here, though, Mr. Scott," he said. "I know that you're off now, but. I don't know, you certainly weren't anticipating having to show me around when you reported for duty earlier, now did you?"

"Shall we, then?" he asked, smiling at the other man and motioning for him to lead on.

Truth be told, though, Jack hadn't really wanted to get a tour the last time he was there, either. The times that he'd gone on walks hadn't been to explore the ship. They had been because he couldn't stand sitting there alone with his thoughts for any longer, and it was the closest he could get to running away from his problems without the actual abandoning Sulu part, and all.

There was a small computer screen next to the door, and Scotty took a moment to bring up an input screen. "I'll let you choose your code. More likely tae remember it that way, I should think."

"Alright," he said, after inputting the code. "How does this work, then, exactly? I just have to input that code every time I want to get in? Or is there something more to it, than that?"

((Question! Would Scotty and Sulu's quarters be on the same deck, then? Or are they on separate ones?))

They arrived quickly enough, and Scotty keyed in his own code; the door slid open to reveal quarters that looked extremely un-lived-in. There were a few personal effects here and there - a couple tech journals on a shelf, a few tools laying about - but otherwise the place was mostly empty. "An' if you don't mind me disappearin' about five minutes, I'll get you started with a drink an' get that sonic, aye?"
[[I don't remember exactly how it's set up, so I'm kind of making it up. XD I think they'd be on the same floor, though, just Scotty's in a section reserved for commanding officers. The NCOs are in a different section, and then the non-ranking crew in yet another section, if I remember correctly.]]

((Haha, alright. Thanks, I was just wondering more than anything else. :3 Trying to wrap my head around the layout of the ship, and all.))

As Sulu came back into the room, looking as clean as he could, Jack shook his head. "These are some good spirits you've got here, Scotty," he said, holding up his glass, which was still largely full--he had promised not to start ahead of him too much, after all. "It's still kind of a shame that you had to settle for the sonic there, and everything, but. Means you and I can get to drinking faster, which... Isn't really a problem with me, at the moment."
