[Sulu isn't really able to follow Scotty's thought process there, and that's evident from the way he speaks.] Jack's from the 51st century, so. Some of this, at least, can probably be attributed to that. At least a little. And... I don't know if it helps, but I don't know if Jack is very good at casual either. I mean, he gets attached just as much as anyone. But he didn't give you less attention, right? Than... someone who was cheating or something would. I guess.

[He's having relationship talks with a man almost 20 years his senior. This is so awkward. He's not even sure he knows where his train of thought is going now.]

But when you're both free, it's not like he's thinking of someone else. [Since that's how it is with him and Ianto - it's one of the things that makes the relationship doable. The fact that he's not second fiddle.]

And I'm sorry none of us realized that. I just think you should talk it over with Jack - not right now, but. You guys seemed to be good for each other, and all.

...I am sorry you found out that way, though. [He almost says, don't take it out on Ianto, but he doesn't want to piss the other man off again.]

[It's alright, now that he's calmed down and had time to think about it, he feels bad because Ianto was there first. And before he talks to Jack, he'll want to talk to Ianto. Make sure he's okay with it.]

Hell of a way t'find out, yeah.

[Sulu almost tells Scotty about how he and Ianto had gotten walked in on - in a more platonic situation, nerding out over alien tech - by Jack, when he wasn't even supposed to be there. But, that's a conversation for a different time.]

Definitely up there on the list of most awkward situations in Starfleet history.
