No - you really don't. You're pissed off because none of us realized you never knew about this whole thing, and yeah, that's okay, but you should at least talk about it before you decide on whatever you're going to do.

Neither of them put me up to it. Ianto told me what happened and I knew you'd be angry and probably need someone to talk to. But, don't act like it was some huge secret - they're both pretty damn open about it. For crying out loud, Scotty, if I had thought you hadn't known, I would have said something. [He almost snaps about how he was pretty sure he remembered Scotty and Jack as having a casual arrangement, so what did it matter, but he holds that one back. Better watch himself.]

[Probably a good thing Sulu doesn't bring up the whole casual thing.]

... [...Well, yeah, actually. But that's not something to say, either.] Look. Neither of them ever intended to keep it a secret from you, or anything. They've been together for... years, honestly. Longer than I've known them, at least. It's not like they were trying to purposely go behind your back or anything.

And it never occurred t'any o' you that if I'd known about it I'd've said something about it when Jack was chasin' after me?

[He's beginning to sound less pissed, at least. No good at sustained anger.]

...Don't take this the wrong way, Scotty, but other than teasing you two, I didn't get involved much there. You and Jack could have had a long conversation about it, for all I knew.

You have no intention of talking to him again? [Sulu sounds skeptical, but he's also exaggerating what Scotty said to show how silly he sounded. Maybe it wasn't the most mature way to do it, but... Hey. He's twenty-two - he can be middle-school on occasion.]

[It's okay, Scotty's not exactly being a shining beacon of maturity himself right now. And he's thirty-eight, he has no excuse.]

...Alright, well, maybe is better than never. But... Look, Scotty. if you'd known about it - about Ianto and Jack being a couple, I mean - [not just sleeping together, but an honest relationship, he means to say,] would that have changed anything? You should have been told, and I completely agree with that, but if you'd known going in that Jack had someone else, would it have bothered you as much as it is now?

[Because if it would've, then maybe it's at least good it's out now. But if not - then Scotty really needs to think about why he's angry and if there's any way to fix it.]

I don't know. [At least he doesn't sound pissed anymore.] I. I don't know. I told him, y'know. I told him I was bad at casual, an' he... [He pauses, taking a deep breath.] I mean. [Another pause.] God, an' Ianto knew, an'-- [And another pause. He's having a bit of trouble getting his thoughts in order. That and he really doesn't want to admit how attached he is to Jack.]

[Sulu isn't really able to follow Scotty's thought process there, and that's evident from the way he speaks.] Jack's from the 51st century, so. Some of this, at least, can probably be attributed to that. At least a little. And... I don't know if it helps, but I don't know if Jack is very good at casual either. I mean, he gets attached just as much as anyone. But he didn't give you less attention, right? Than... someone who was cheating or something would. I guess.

[He's having relationship talks with a man almost 20 years his senior. This is so awkward. He's not even sure he knows where his train of thought is going now.]

[Sorry, Sulu. Scotty is really dumb when it comes to relationships. Brilliant engineer, no common sense, and no relationship sense.]

I... I don't know. It's no' like. I mean. We're always busy, it's no' like there's a lot o' time for... It's always something with the engine or something's goin' on with Torchwood...

But when you're both free, it's not like he's thinking of someone else. [Since that's how it is with him and Ianto - it's one of the things that makes the relationship doable. The fact that he's not second fiddle.]

...All I really want you to know is that he wasn't trying to hurt you, or anything. He's not trying to play you, either. Ianto and Jack... just have a more open relationship. [That was an understatement.]

Right, with Jack bein' from the 51st century an' all, an' that's... I mean... that's fine, it's just a different culture an' all, but. I didn't know. An' everyone keeps goin' on about how it's so obvious an' I ought to've realized but I didn't, an' you know my head's in the engine half the time anyway an' it wasn't 'til you said something that I realized you an' Ianto were together, an'...

Whoa, hey. It's okay, Scotty. You know what, even if it was obvious to some people from the start, someone should have explained it to you before this happened. And I'm sorry none of us realized that. I just think you should talk it over with Jack - not right now, but. You guys seemed to be good for each other, and all.

Yeah, I'll. Yeah, alright.

...I am sorry you found out that way, though. [He almost says, don't take it out on Ianto, but he doesn't want to piss the other man off again.]

[It's alright, now that he's calmed down and had time to think about it, he feels bad because Ianto was there first. And before he talks to Jack, he'll want to talk to Ianto. Make sure he's okay with it.]

Hell of a way t'find out, yeah.

[Sulu almost tells Scotty about how he and Ianto had gotten walked in on - in a more platonic situation, nerding out over alien tech - by Jack, when he wasn't even supposed to be there. But, that's a conversation for a different time.]

Definitely up there on the list of most awkward situations in Starfleet history.
