While shore leave may seem like a bit of vacation to everyone else... I've always hated being on the ship during a refit. With the engine all but shut down completely, she feels dead. And I can't decide if it'll be better to oversee the refit myself, or to let the station crew do their job and then go back and fix what they've mucked up - and they will muck things up. Leave it to Starfleet to decide that sending a station crew to refit a ship is a good idea.

On top of that, I've got to get things sorted out with the captain, and I'm sure Liz'll kill me if we don't spend at least a little time down on Risa, and I still haven't managed to get around to meeting Tom for drinks. Too much to do, and not enough time to do it in.

After some deliberation I've decided that if I show any signs of attempting to oversee the ship's refit, you're all to clap me in irons and drag me off to enjoy myself this shore leave. And if I continue to resist, you're to pour alcohol down my throat until I either pass out, burst into song, or decide to join in the fun.

I have a bottle of scotch here...it was Jeremy's and I really really don't want it where I can get at it. Have a good time drinking it, eh?

As much as I appreciate the offer, that's one bottle of scotch that might be better off being poured out for Jeremy, aye? Find a quiet place planetside, let him have a few last drinks.

Yeah. I'll find a quiet place. Least I can do for the guy who saved my life, eh?

Just remember, lad, as much as it hurts right now, it hurts a little less now then it did a couple days ago, and it'll hurt a little less tomorrow, and the day after that.

I'd like to believe that. Maybe one day, I will.

Believe me, I know it's tough. But I also know it'll get better.

Well, after this tour, I'm done with Starfleet.

Not saying this'll be the case for you, but I said the same thing after my first tour.

Obviously you can see how that turned out.
